Our Initiative

The mental health workforce does not reflect the communities it serves. Limited representation among providers reduces trust, engagement, and sustained participation in mental health care for underserved and system-impacted communities. This gap also shapes research priorities, methodologies, and areas of focus, as lived experience and community context remain underrepresented in clinical research and practice.

All donations directly support the recruitment and development of the next generation of mental health professionals.

SpringBridge provides education, mentorship, cohort-based support, financial assistance, and clear career pathways for individuals pursuing careers in mental health.

Through this model, SpringBridge expands access to licensure pathways for therapists, social workers, and researchers by supporting individuals who have historically faced barriers to entering the field.

This investment strengthens communities by ensuring individuals seeking care can connect with mental health professionals who bring shared understanding, credibility, and lived experience—building trust and improving long-term outcomes.

Who We Recruit

We recruit system-impacted youth and young adults across Los Angeles County and provide a lecture series and informational materials that introduce mental health careers, education pathways, and available supports.

  • The importance of mental health for individuals and their communities

  • The role of representation and lived experience in mental health care

  • An overview of mental health careers, including areas of focus and earning potential

  • How SpringBridge supports education and career pathways in mental health

The lecture series alone provides valuable insight into mental health, self-advocacy, and the importance of informed career decision-making, even for individuals who do not apply to or participate in the full program. By sharing knowledge and increasing awareness within system-impacted communities, SpringBridge builds familiarity with mental health careers and strengthens trust in mental health professionals.

Those who are interested in signing up can apply in person after one of our lectures or via our website. Each year, SpringBridge selects a limited number of participants to form cohorts. Learn more about what our program participants receive here
