Our Initiative
There is a lack of representation among mental health professionals. This lack of equity and inclusion affects attendance and reliance in mental health care among under-served, disadvantaged, and diverse communities. It affects research topics, methodology, and interest as the unique cultural and ethnic backgrounds among researchers remains limited.
All donations go to helping us recruit and support the next generation of mental health professionals.
We are providing education, mentorship, cohort development, financial support, and career development for those interested in mental health.
We are increasing the diversity among licensed therapist, social workers, and researchers by providing our services to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
This will be a positive impact to those disadvantaged communities as those who are looking for services will be able to seek mental health services from professionals with a familiar background or similarly lived experiences.
Who We Recruit
We are recruiting students (high school 11th and 12th grade, associate level students, and 1st and 2nd year bachelors) from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds in Los Angeles County. We provide a lecture series and promotional handouts to this population that provides information about:
-
The importance of mental health to oneself and community
-
The importance of diverse representation in mental health
-
Various types of careers in mental health; their focuses and salaries
-
How SpringBridge can assist in education and careers in mental health
The lecture series alone will provide great insight into mental health, self-advocacy, and the importance of career selection, even for those who choose not to apply or participate in the program. Spreading knowledge and awareness in disadvantaged communities and building familiarity with mental health professionals.
Those who are interested in signing up can apply in person after our presentation at a school or via our website. We select ten students per year that make up two cohorts. Learn more about what our program participants receive here.
